Dr Christina Botros BScHons, MD ,CCFP, is an advocate for preventative medicine and a holistic approach to primary care. She has expanded her knowledge in Eastern as well as Western medicine in parallel during her educational career to be able to provide a comprehensive evidence-based approach to holistic healing.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Molecular Genetics from the University of Alberta in 2009 Dr Botros went on to complete her Medical Degree there in 2011. Next she completed her residency training at the oldest rural family medicine program in Canada in Chilliwack, BC through the University of British Columbia, where she graduated as the Chief Resident in 2013. Dr Botros is passionate about mental health and has pursued training in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as well as Emotional Freedom Technique.

Dr Botros is also passionate about mental health and has done training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for adults as well as children and is well versed in mindfulness based practices. She has also done some training in Emotional Freedom Technique – a practice that uses tapping on acupressure points for psychological and physiological management of symptoms and is recognized by the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 12 Task Force as an empirically validated treatment.

Over the last 2 years Dr Botros has pursued certification in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine and will complete this in April 2021. It became clear that Dr Botros needed a means by which to practice authentically and marry her personal and professional lives. She needed a way to practice both allopathic and natural medicine simultaneously and Functional Medicine was the answer she had longed for.

Function Medicine is a holistic approach to primary care that looks at addressing the root causes of diseases and uses evidence-based natural interventions when appropriate. This holistic approach addresses gut health, food and lifestyle optimization, stress management, genetics, inflammation, hormone balance, toxin exposure and detoxification, and mitochondrial function for energy.

The Functional Medicine approach also brings into consideration that health and wellness are not simply the absence of disease. There is a great emphasis on establishing joy, resiliency, purpose, and peace in patient’s lives despite their personal health struggles.

Flow state psychology was the inspiration behind Peak Flow Medicine, the method-practice created by Dr Botros by which her and her multidisciplinary team facilitate healing through a Functional Medicine approach. She looks forward to getting into flow with you and thinks of this step as an essential starting point to be able to suggest the individualized medicine best suited to guide you on your healing journey.
